Every college girl knows that her skin is not going to take those changes easy. It may be the increase in the amount of alcohol you drink, the sudden change of diet from home-made cooking to pizza and fast-food or the severe lack of sleep, but college has a devastating effect on some people’s skin. I was lucky enough to experience only mild outbreaks, but many of my friends still have nightmares when they remember those college years that made them break out more than ever. But when you are running around a campus you also get to meet older girls, who’ve already been there and done that. So by the time I left college I had picked up a decent number of skincare tips. Now I am sharing them with you, college girls!
1. Hydrate your skin from within
College years are filled with parties and sleepless nights, so one of the things you can do is drink enough water. The ideal quantity is around 8 glasses per day, which should keep your body hydrated. When you are hydrated, your cells function better, so your skin will look better in terms of texture and shade. Water also helps your body detox itself after a night of learning or partying hard, so make sure you have a bottle of water with you at all times to sip from.
2. Embrace Avocados
Your skin depends on what you eat in the same way it depends on what you put on it. For clear, hydrated skin you have to embrace a healthy diet. Proteins and vitamin C are your best allies, so feast on avocados. The proteins ensure your tissues are nourished, while the vitamin C ensures your skin is toned and glowing. If you can’t eat avocados without a big portion of guacamole, you can try to make an avocado salad or match your avocado with an egg. If this doesn’t work either, you can make a face mask from the avocado and enjoy a glass of orange juice next to some scrambled eggs to make sure you get your proteins and vitamins.
3. Keep an eye on your leafy greens
Apart from avocados, which are rich in proteins and vitamin C, you need to eat a decent amount of leafy greens, to ensure your dose of vitamin E. Spinach and nuts are the richest in this vitamin, so make sure you eat them frequently. Once a week or twice a month you can also make yourself a mask out of vitamin E capsules, by squeezing their content and massaging it on your face, or by simply massaging your face with coconut oil. Your skin will look and feel healthier and the blemishes will be gone. Another “side effect” of increasing your vitamin E intake is stronger hair – vitamin E reduces hair loss, which is a common problem during college years.
4. Rely on Nature
Speaking of blemishes, nature has a great cure for blemishes and breakouts: honey! Buy natural honey and use it topically, to reduce the redness of a random blemish, or apply it all over your face during a breakout. Honey has natural antibacterial, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties, so it will soothe the itches and the redness and it will cure the breakouts. Green tea bags are another simple remedy for your skin. When you feel your skin is not looking great, take a teabag of green tea and keep it in hot water for several minutes. Then squeeze it and massage your face with it. This simple trick will refresh your face and will clean your skin after a long day. These are the simplest methods a college girl can rely on to have a clear, blemish free skin. During college you are typically broke, so switching to these natural beauty enhancers is not going to stress your budget. Just be consistent about them and enjoy your college life!
